Cameron Roper
First Year Fellow
Cameron Roper is a writer, daydreamer, and community organizer passionate about creating spaces that merge joy, grief, and responsibility. She has worked in bringing people together over a shared love of the planet, whether that be through organizing diy art and music festivals, hosting reading groups, curating ecological art exhibitions, hosting open mics, and as events coordinator at her local bookstore. She has supported others in their love of the planet, through participating in her local seed library and native plant projects. She is seeking answers to big questions, asks them mostly in the form of poetry, and answers them mostly in the form of gardening, hiking, swimming, singing, swing dancing, and gathering with others. She has been an educator since she was a child playing teacher with her friends--now she gets to do it for real, teaching writing, art, and gardening to kids and adults of all ages. She loves to connect with others by writing personalized typewriter poems in public places--you can always find her at the LA Times Festival of Books, just look for the green typewriter!
